2- VIETNAMESE YOUTH

Spring 1984

Dedicated to those who are concerned about the Vietnamese youth

I want to place the Vietnamese Youth, the Nation’s Future, in my embrace.

I want to place the Vietnamese Youth, the Nation’s Future, in my limitless love.

Oh! The Vietnamese Youth, the Nation’s Future, who are abandoned and lost

on the country’s roads,

on the sidewalks,

hungry and cold, wandering hopelessly,

with no way out.

Who can protect you from becoming the red-scarf Youth?

Who can protect you from being forged by Communist dogma?

Who has engrained in your mind Nationalism?

Who would help you to distinguish between Nationalism and Communism?

Who would love the children with Nationalist thoughts?

Who would love the children with Communist thoughts?

I want to place the Vietnamese Youth, the Nation’s Future, in my embrace:

neglected children in refugee camps,

lonely children everywhere in the world,

children who live in prosperity and peace,

youths who spend time in the coffee shops,

around pool tables, or wildly dancing with music.

What will the Youth learn?

Hatred and revenge?

Who will teach them about love and to protect those who are of the same Vietnamese race?

Who will teach the Vietnamese children,

the Buds of the Nation,

about passionate love for the nation,

about love for people of the same skin color,

about love for people of the same blood,

about love for people who speak

the Vietnamese language?

Oh! The Vietnamese Youth!

Who will show you the direction?

Who will give you true love?

To rebuild the Vietnamese Youth, the Nation’s Future,

To rebuild Vietnam: without hatred, and without ideology.

A New Vietnam filled with passionate Patriotic Love.
